Community Matinees

RWB Community Matinees invite young families, students, school groups and community organizations to experience live ballet at Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall.

2026/27 Community Matinees

Opening the Doors to Dance

Offered twice each season, these specially curated performances bring the storytelling, music, and movement of an RWB production to the stage in a shortened format. Each Community Matinee is adapted by RWB’s artistic team to make the performance more accessible while keeping the heart of the work intact. Community Matinee tickets are just $15 per person for groups of 10 or more.

RWB works with schools and community organizations across Winnipeg and Manitoba to make that experience easier to access.

The Fairy’s Kiss

Perfect for families and first-time balletgoers, this special matinee features Alexei Ratmansky’s The Fairy’s Kiss, a beautiful one-act ballet inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Ice-Maiden.

Filled with enchanting storytelling, classical dance and Stravinsky’s music inspired by Tchaikovsky, The Fairy’s Kiss follows a young man whose life is forever changed by an encounter with a mysterious fairy.

Enjoy a shorter ballet experience filled with fairy-tale storytelling from one of today’s leading choreographers. With a more accessible running time, this performance is a wonderful introduction to ballet for younger audiences, families and anyone looking for a shorter theatre experience.

Please note: This matinee features The Fairy’s Kiss only. Firebird is not included in this performance, and ticket prices reflect the shorter program.

The Mix

The program features Hans van Manen’s 5 Tangos, a masterpiece of fluidity and subtle drama, presented in tribute to the recently passed Dutch master; George Balanchine’s Rubies, a sparkling display of technical brilliance and playful energy; and a striking new work titled Illusions of Someday by Canadian choreographer Alysa Pires, honouring The Tragically Hip on the tenth anniversary of Gord Downie’s passing.

This program embodies the season’s theme of duality, balancing tradition with innovation, narrative depth with pure spectacle, and timeless artistry with fearless experimentation.

Audiences are invited to experience an evening of exhilarating dance that exemplifies RWB’s commitment to artistic excellence, emotional resonance, and the fearless pursuit of new ideas in the world of ballet.
