RWB School Professional Division Presents Spotlight
Spotlight is the main stage production featuring students of the RWB School Professional Division. This year’s program includes:
This classical ballet is known for its many virtuosic highlights, such as The Pas de Trois and the Grand Pas de Deux, considered quintessential works of the traditional classical ballet repertory.
Inspired by the culture and passion of the Romani people, Romani Song tells the story of Violka and Manush, as they fall in love and dream of beginning their lives together.
THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL
Unable to go home because she has yet not sold a single match, the little matchstick girl lights them one by one, finding comfort in the warmth of their flames, and in the beautiful visions they inspire. Based on the short story by Hans Christian Andersen.

2016-17 RD Registration
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School is pleased to announce that we are once again offering appointments for Recreational Division registration!
Registration will run from June 14-18 and June 21-24, 2016. We have a guaranteed appointment slot for each of our returning students. All students must have a confirmed appointment in order to register during the registration period.
You will be asked to book the time that is most convenient to you, and then visit the RWB Building at 380 Graham Avenue just 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. As always, you’ll have an opportunity to meet with both artistic and administrative staff and your appointment will last approximately15 minutes per student.
You may begin to book appointments on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10:00 am. As returning student families, you will have exclusive access to the appointment schedule for 2 weeks, before appointment times become available to the general public. Starting on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, new students will also be permitted to schedule appointments to register. All appointments will be booked on a first come, first served basis. Classes are subject to availability.
Booking an appointment is a simple, 4 step process:
- Enter in the exclusive access code for returning students: RWB76
- Enter your name and contact information, along with the names of each student you wish to register.
- Select the appointment(s) most convenient to you. Each student requires one appointment slot. It is advantageous for families to select consecutive appointments. If you have more than 4 students in your family, you require only 4 appointment slots – we will be able to register families of 4+ students within one hour.
After scheduling your appointment(s), you will receive an email confirmation for your registration time. This email will provide instruction on rescheduling or cancelling your appointment if necessary. Please mark your appointment in your calendar and hold onto your confirmation email! In the meantime, we strongly encourage you to complete your registration paperwork ahead of time to save you time during the registration process.
Although we are not able to book, cancel, or reschedule your appointment over the phone, the School Office staff would be pleased to assist with any of your questions or concerns.
The appointment system was very well received in 2015 and our hope is to continue to build on this success in 2016. If you have any feedback that would help us to improve this service, please email Tali Sitschkar, Recreational Division Registrar at email@example.com.
We look forward to seeing you this spring!

Achievement Award Winners
Each year the Royal Winnipeg Ballet RD artistic faculty nominates and selects Junior and Senior Achievement Award recipients. These students have demonstrated tremendous improvement, commitment, School Spirit and dedication to their dance training. We are proud to announce that that Junior Achievement Award recipient for the 2015 – 16 year is Logan Quatember, and the Senior Achievement Award recipient for the 2015 – 16 year is Daria McKennitt.
The RD artistic faculty also nominates one student to receive the Jean McKenzie Award. In the late 1930’s Jean McKenzie was scouted by Betty Farrally and Gweneth Lloyd to join the Winnipeg Dance Club. She danced with the Club and then the Company until 1950. In 1962, Ms McKenzie became the Principal of the School of the Winnipeg Ballet and continued teaching and leading the school for 23 years. She was an inspirational dancer and had a passion for teaching. The family of the late RWB ballerina, in memory of Jean McKenzie, have established a scholarship that would be offered on an annual basis to one Recreational Division student who shows potential in ballet, dedication to the art form and strong camaraderie within the school. We are happy to announce the winner of this award for the 2015 – 16 season is Magdalena McGregor.
We also have the pleasure of presenting the Teaching Assistant Award of Achievement. Every year the artistic faculty nominates a teaching assistant who has shown outstanding commitment to the class that they assist. This year the artistic faculty has selected two students who were equally deserving of this award, Kaelin Antonishin and Mia McFeetors.
Congratulations to all award recepients!
