Rick Singh was born and raised in Winnipeg to immigrant parents from Punjab, India. He is the eldest of three children that grew up in the East Kildonan neighbourhood in the northeast region of the city. It was here that Rick had the opportunity to attend public school and participate in organized sports. Rick now resides in the Rural Municipality of East St Paul with his wife Raj and two children Asha and Avi.
Following graduation from high school at Miles Macdonell Collegiate, Rick went on to study at the University of Manitoba, where he graduated with a B.Sc. (major) in Biochemistry. He went on to attend what is now the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba where he obtained Doctor Medicine (MD). Subsequently, Rick completed a residency in Family Medicine (CCFP) and then a residency in Anesthesiology (FRCPC). Following the anesthesiology residency, he further subspecialized in Cardiac Anesthesia. Rick is now an Assistant Professor within the Max Rady College at the University of Manitoba.
Currently, Rick is a Consultant Anesthesiologist in the WRHA/Shared Health, primarily at St. Boniface Hospital and Grace Hospital. He has been on staff for approximately 11 years and provides anesthesia services at both sites. In addition to providing clinical anesthesia services, Rick provides clinical services to the Cardiac ICU at St. Boniface Hospital. At the administrative level, he serves as the Medical Director for the Anesthesia Clinical Assistants with the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine. He also serves as a member of the Cardiac Standards Committee within the Cardiac Sciences Program of Manitoba.
Rick has served on several committees dealing with medical and administrative matters. He has benefitted from the volunteer services of others and looks forward to contributing to one of our province’s major institutions.
