Bio

Katie Bonnell was promoted to Second Soloist in 2019. She joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company as an Apprentice in 2013 and was promoted to the Corps de Ballet in 2015.

Katie has danced several lead and featured roles, including Annie in Mark Godden’s Going Home Star: Truth and Reconciliation, Lucy in Dracula, Dark Angel in Serenade, Moira in The Handmaid’s Tale: Based on the Novel by Margaret Atwood, the Arabian pas de deux in Nutcracker, the Stepmother in Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story, Tall Swans in Swan Lake, and the Taberna Woman in Carmina Burana. Her repertoire also includes Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet, The Four Seasons, The Wizard of Oz, and Peter Quanz’s Luminous. Katie has been part of three world premieres with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet: Lila York’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Going Home Star: Truth and Reconciliation, and James Kudelka’s Vespers.

Originally from Oakville, Ontario, Katie began her training at the age of four with Virginia Fleming and Sarah Baeumler before attending the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division in 2008. She joined the Anna McCowan-Johnson Aspirant Program in 2011 and was accepted into the RWB Company in 2013.
