​Born in Osaka, Manami Tsubai began dancing at the age of three. She studied at Soda Ballet School in Japan until 2007 when she moved to Canada to begin her training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division. She was invited to join the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company in 2012.

Since joining the Company, Tsubai has performed such roles as Myrtha (Giselle), pas de trois and Tall Swan (Swan Lake), Russian and Spanish (Nutcracker), as well as The Sleeping Beauty, James Kudelka’s The Four Seasons, The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, William Forsythe’s Hula, Balanchine’s Apollo, Le Corsaire, and La Bayadère. In 2014, she toured with the Company to China performing Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet and Romeo + Juliet, and in 2015 she joined the Company’s tour to Europe to perform Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet.

In August of 2015, she joined Tetsuya Kumakawa’s Orchard Gala in Japan to perform The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude with Japanese dancers working for ballet companies all around the world.
