THE ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET IS SEEKING A SCHOOL DIRECTOR TO JOIN OUR TEAM

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The School Director, in conjunction with the Director of School Operations, is responsible for the leadership and management of the Professional and Recreational Divisions of the RWB School. This position is responsible for the artistic direction of the School, and the safety, health and well-being of the students. The School Director oversees the academic programs of the RBW School and the School Artistic Faculty, and actively participates as a member of the RWB leadership team and senior management teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP, BUDGETING AND PLANNING
  • Oversee and provide artistic direction for the School
  • Lead the strategic and business planning for the School
  • Lead and manage recruitment, training and evaluation of School teachers
  • Support the School budget preparation
  • Continually seek out opportunities for increased revenue generation and work to achieve the greatest possible cost efficiency and effective use of expense budget
  • Collaborate with the Development Department on fundraising initiatives that support School operations
  • Build and maintain local, national and international connections and relationships
  • Assist and advise with grant applications
  • In partnership with the Director of School Operations, ensure all administrative systems support the mandate of the School
  • Oversee the student Residence and programming, along with student safety, health and well-being
  • Lead and manage student recruitment, enrollment, and development
  • Co-Chair the RWB School Committee to the Board
ARTISTIC
  • Ensure the artistic excellence of the School at a national and international level standard:
  • -In training dancers and dance teachers in the Professional Division -In providing quality dance instruction in the Recreational Division
  • Oversee the School dance curriculums and evaluation of student progress and achievement
  • Teach and rehearse in the school as required
  • Work closely with the AD/CEO and artistic staff to choose student casts for RWB productions
SERVICE AND RELATIONSHIPS
  • Manage the academic programs and relationships of the School
  • Ensure the School Advisory Committee functions accordingly
  • Work cooperatively and communicate with internal stakeholders, ensuring the delivery of highly effective service
  • Continually reinforce the strategies, values and operational policies of the RWB through example and communication
OTHER DUTIES
  • Ensure all communications, strategies and actions support, protect and nurture the brand of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

The School Director, when performing administrative duties, will work in an office environment utilizing standard office equipment, in addition a significant amount of time is spent in dance studios performing and instructing the movement of dancers. This requires constant and significant amount of jumping, stretching and movement of the entire body. The weekly schedule is irregular, consisting of days, evening and weekends. Communication with internal and external stakeholders, parents, and students is constant and on-going, which may be stressful at times.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the dance education industry
  • Experience teaching the Russian system of classical ballet, and at various levels
  • Notable professional dance performance experience with a respected reputation in the international dance community
  • 5 years or more of administrative/executive experience
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Outlook
  • Effective writing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional trends, professional development, school improvement processes, student assessment systems, socio-emotional support, and interdisciplinary instructional approaches
  • 4 year University/College Degree an asset
  • Clear Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Strong planning and organizational abilities
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to inspire change in people and process
  • Basic understanding of a financial budget with the ability to analyze data and apply change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated success in improving student achievement and creating a positive school culture in a diverse setting
  • Experience with fundraising, board relations, finance and operations an asset
