THE ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET IS SEEKING A RESIDENCE CARETAKER TO JOIN OUR TEAM

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Residence Caretaker is accountable for the care and cleanliness of the RWB School Residence building and grounds, as well as minor maintenance and driving. This position works in conjunction with the Facilities Manager and is responsible for notifying the Facilitates Department of any repairs, complaints, or concerns pertaining to the physical space of the building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and operate main water shut off, alarm system, heating system, and main electrical and control panels
  • Maintain cleanliness of offices, washrooms, corridors, cafeterias, staff rooms, storage rooms
  • Wash and/or wax woodwork, walls fixtures, windows, desks, chairs, shelving, and other furniture
  • Collect and dispose of refuse/garbage and recycling
  • Perform laundry service as requested
  • Clean microwaves, water fountains and coolers and keep supplied with water where applicable
  • Clean, install, remove and store windows and doors
  • Remove snow from sidewalks and driveways
  • Water and mow lawn and green areas
  • Move furniture and equipment
  • Load and unload trucks
  • Requisition, receive and maintain cleaning supplies and materials
  • Participate in School Emergency measures such as fire drills, lock downs, and evacuations
  • Maintain Workplace Safety and Health materials and maintain maintenance safety logs
  • Perform minor maintenance as required and ensure third party maintenance services are provided as needed
  • Order and pick up supplies and parcels as needed
  • Provide support with student transport to appointments/academic schools/other as able to in conjunction with assigned tasks
  • Oversee all contractors required to be on the premises at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a physical position that requires considerable use of arms and legs along with whole body movement such as climbing, lifting, walking, bending and handling of materials. Some heavy lifting may be required. Due to the nature of this position, working conditions may not always be favorable with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and grease.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of cleaning and maintenance requirements
  • 1 year of related caretaker or janitorial experience
  • Valid Class IV driver’s license, or willing and eligible to obtain within three (3) months of employment
  • Willing to produce drivers abstract as requested
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Workplace Safety and Health
  • Clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • First Aid certification a strong asset, or the willingness to obtain

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of power tool safety
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping procedures
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize assigned tasks/duties
  • Strong time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
  • Able to follow verbal and written direction and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
