TEACHERS' SUMMER WORKSHOP
Contact the RWB School Office for more information.
The Ballet Academic Program is a full-time, intensive, seven level training program designed for students aspiring to careers as professional ballet dancers. The Regular Session runs from September to June, in conjunction with the academic school year. Students may enter at age 11 or academic grade 6 and complete Level 7 with a Graduation Diploma during their academic grade 12 year.
“From the beginning, the RWB has had to look no further than the talented students of the Professional Division to join our ranks. The synergy between the Company and the School is unique to the RWB and only furthers the organization’s growth and future success.” André Lewis
RWB Artistic Director

Ballet Academic Program students do intensive work in ballet and pointe technique and in later levels, pas de deux and variations. In addition to classical training, students receive a comprehensive education in character dance and modern dance. The curriculum is augmented by classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, repertoire, Spanish dance, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, nutrition, performance enhancement, and strength-training for male students.
Performance opportunities are an integral part of students’ education at the RWB School, and exist throughout the year at home venues such as the Centennial Concert Hall and the Shaw Arts Centre and for senior students, on the road with the School’s touring company, Concert Hour Ballet. First Steps, the RWB School’s student-run choreographic competition, is one of the highlights of the School year.
Academics are a vital part of any young person’s training. With this in mind, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division has forged unique partnerships with two academic schools, ensuring our students are challenged and stimulated beyond the walls of our studios, thus enabling us to offer the best overall support to our student body.
The RWB School’s integrated dance and academic program allows students to pursue professional ballet training fulltime while meeting all academic requirements for university entrance. Nordale School, in Winnipeg’s Louis Riel School Division, and the Collegiate at the University of Winnipeg, are our partner schools for students in grades 6 to 8 and students in grades 9 to 12, respectively. The faculty at both academic schools are dedicated and caring, helping our students achieve their best work in the classroom and maintain a healthy balance between dance and academics.
Supplemental programming, such as dance history, nutrition, peer relationships and performance enhancement, are offered by the RWB School to complement and enrich students’ academic and dance training.
The RWB School appreciates the Province of Manitoba’s support of our Professional Division students from their financial contribution through the Department of Education towards academic costs for all students attending the RWB School, regardless of country of origin.
