Winnipeg, Manitoba (May 25, 2012) – Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division presents On the Edge, an intimate evening showcasing the artists of the Aspirant Program on May 31 and June 1 at the RWB Building.
The RWB School’s Aspirant Program is an intensive, post-secondary training program designed for advanced level classical ballet dancers who have completed their professional training and are making the transition from student to professional artist.
This year’s On the Edge mixed-repertoire program offers a wide range of dance styles including classical ballet, contemporary and Spanish dance, and even elements of hip hop. The performance will feature new choreography by RWB School Artistic Faculty members Bruce Monk, Gabriela Rehak and Maritel Centurion.
Two Aspirant Program dancers have also been given the opportunity to showcase their choreographic skills. Jera Wolfe has channeled his hip hop and break dancing background to create a multi-genre piece entitled Layers. Wolfe previously appeared on the popular dance program So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and made it all the way to the competition’s Top 18. Keigo Nozaki will debut his new contemporary work, Inside Out.
On the Edge is made possible through the generous support of the Graham C. Lount Family Foundation, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Manitoba Arts Council and Arts Stabilization Manitoba.
On the Edge will take place May 31 and June 1 at 7:30 pm in the Founders’ Studio at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Building, located at 380 Graham Avenue. Tickets are $12 for the Thursday performance and $25 for Friday’s performance and reception, and are available for purchase at the RWB Customer Service Office (Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm) or by calling (204) 956-2792 or 1-855-985-5000.
