Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet performed alongside local artists at the Manitoba Homecoming Concert for Human Rights at the Scotiabank Stage at The Forks on Saturday, July 3rd. Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh were both in attendance at the event as part of their Canadian Tour.
First Soloist Dmitri Dovgoselets and Second Soloist Maureya Lebowitz performed an enticing Pas de Deux from Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story entitled: Isn’t it Romantic. Several thousand people were in attendance for the event.
"I was both excited and honoured when asked to perform during the Queen’s visit. Her presence was felt by the audience of thousands that came to the concert. It gave me an experience to remember for a lifetime," said Lebowitz.
This visit hold great significance for the RWB. In 1953 the Royal Winnipeg Ballet received its royal charter, the first granted under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
