Dracula—that’s a Wrap!
The goosebumps caused by Dracula are gone, but not forgotten. While Dracula is currently on its second tour into the United States, the production wrapped up in Winnipeg on October 30th.
The audience included Dracula die-hards who purchased tickets to multiple nights, a (now married) couple who had their first date at RWB’s Dracula in 2010, and many first-time ballet attendees.
Dracula received 4.5/5 stars from the Winnipeg Free Press in a review by Holly Harris. “…powerfully dramatic work, which has retained its death grip on viewers’ imaginations…it’s likely many in the mixed-generation audience went home Wednesday night fearful of things that go bump in the night — even ballet dancers”, said Harris. Read the full review here.
The lucky winner of our Dracula Costume Contest has been chosen! Kirsten Kruse will debut on stage in her Nutcracker walk-on role on Sunday, December 30th. Thank you to all who participated in our Dracula Costume Contest—there was no shortage of contest spirit at the Centennial Concert Hall! Stay tuned to our December Company Spotlight for the release of our 2016 Nutcracker Walk-on Roles.
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Fairmont Winnipeg collaborate for Trees of Hope
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is pleased to participate in Fairmont Winnipeg’s holiday campaign: Trees of Hope. Trees of Hope is an annual campaign hosted by Fairmont Hotels across Canada that benefits various local causes. This year, proceeds from Trees of Hope will go to the RWB’s Pointe Shoe Fund.
The RWB School Pointe Shoe Fund supports dancers with pointe shoes for performance opportunities and provides assistance to students who need help to cover the cost of purchasing pointe shoes for class. Dancers need new pointe shoes every 3-5 weeks and at $80-$125 per pair, the cost of pointe shoes can be daunting.
The Trees of Hope campaign kicked off at the Fairmont on November 17th with Chrissy Troy, Co-host of The Ace Burpee Show, hanging the first tree ornament: a pointe shoe. For more information, please click here.
The Grand Tour of Fairmont Winnipeg’s Nutcracker Suite
An additional treat for the festive season is Fairmont Winnipeg’s Nutcracker Suite. Equipped with Nutcracker props, a grand piano, Santa’s desk (where he writes his highly anticipated letters), and no shortage of glitz, this suite is a true gem to experience.
Guests who post or tweet a photo of their Santa Suite visit using the hashtag #WPGSantaSuite will automatically be entered to win a one-night stay at Fairmont Winnipeg on the Fairmont Gold floor.

Congratulations to those that accepted a role this year—we look forward to having you on stage with us! A huge “thank you” to all who came out—it is this kind of excitement that makes Nutcracker an annual joy to produce!
