As always, thank you to those who attended and supported our World Premiere! We enjoyed performing for you as much as you enjoyed being in the audience.

School is definitely not out for summer at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet!

Adult Summer Dance takes place July 3rd – August 3rd and offers ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, and tap classes that start at beginner and work their way up pending on skill level.

Dance Intensive (DI17) is a dynamic two-week training program for young dancers aged 9-18 and takes place from July 31st to August 12th. DI17 is designed to give students the opportunity to express themselves artistically, improve their technique and deepen their understanding of ballet in a positive and supportive environment!

The RWB School Professional Division’s Teachers’ Summer Workshop is in the works from July 10th to 14th. This workshop is a five day professional development opportunity for dance teachers at all stages of their careers and working in any syllabus or system of training.

The RWB School Professional Division Summer Session takes place July 2nd to July 29th. RWB’s Professional Division Summer Session is considered the second stage of a two stage audition process for entry into RWB’s Professional Division Ballet Academic Program. Students complete intensive work in ballet and pointe technique and, depending on their level, pas de deux and variations. In addition to classical training, students receive a comprehensive education in character dance and modern dance. The curriculum is augmented by classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, repertoire, Spanish dance, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, nutrition, performance enhancement, as well as strength-training for male students.

Sharing Dance Day is Around the Corner!

Sharing Dance Day 2015; Photo by Amy Simoes

Sharing Dance Day 2017 is Thursday, June 8th and is just a hop, skip, and a choreographed jump around the corner! Figuratively and literally, this year’s Sharing Dance Day takes place at the University of Winnipeg’s Health and RecPlex at 350 Spence Street, just minutes from the RWB building.

What does the day entail? The event begins at 10:30 AM and features performances by the School of Contemporary Dancers, Gearshifting, Boss Dance Team, Rainbow Stage, Shanley Spence Folklorama Dance Class, and the RWB.

Arguably the most anticipated performance of the day is the performance of the Sharing Dance Day routine, a piece choreographed by four Canadian choreographers that answers the question of “what it means to be Canadian”. Participants of all skill levels have been learning this routine since January and are eager to unite in performance.

That’s not all—Sharing Dance Day will be brimming with notable Winnipeggers such as the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Cheer and Dance Team and loved Winnipeg mascots, such as Folklorama Llama and Niibin from Canada Summer Games!

Fairmont Trees of Hope-the Gift that Keeps on Giving!

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet was selected as the lucky organization to receive contributions from Fairmont Winnipeg’s annual Trees of Hope Campaign, which ran from November to December in 2016. Trees of Hope is an annual Holiday season campaign put on by the Fairmont hotel chain. Guests of the Fairmont contributed at the service desk and then hung a pair of pointe shoes on a Christmas tree in the Fairmont’s lobby.

Proceeds were divided between RWB’s Pointe Shoe Fund & the RWB School Recreational Division Opportunity Fund. In total, $4,530 was raised through this campaign, which we received this past spring.

An endless “thank you” to those who contributed and to Fairmont Winnipeg!

One of the local school names that has partnered with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for Sharing Dance Day is Pinkham School. We had a chance to sit down with some of the staff and students to talk about their experiences with Sharing Dance- check out the videos below!
