The Royal Winnipeg Ballet would like to thank you for making Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story apart of your Valentine’s plans. This special production came into full swing with the electric live music of the Ron Paley Big Band! This 1950s inspired production also received 4 out of 5 stars in a review by Holly Harris of the Winnipeg Free Press.

“Ten years after its première, Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story continues to entertain as a clever take on a classic tale. But if you need one more reason to see the 135-minute production, it must surely be Winnipeg jazz king Ron Paley’s brilliant, textural score, featuring his own orchestrations/arrangements of Richard Rodgers numbers. They’re performed live by his 20-piece big band and his vocals are still effervescent and brighter than a neon billboard.” - Holly Harris, Winnipeg Free Press.

First Steps is a Wrap!

Congratulations to RWB’s Professional Division students for an amazing First Steps production. This year the show was SOLD OUT! Audience members had the pleasure of witnessing emerging student choreographers and dancers bring their creations to life on stage for the very first time. Guest jurors included Amanda Green, RWB Company Principal Dancer, Johanne Gingras, RWB School Director, Teacher Training Programing, dance critic Holly Harris, intermedia artist of AVATAR Freya Björg Olafson, and seasoned dancer James Phillips.

“I am constantly in awe of the amazing talent we have right here in Winnipeg. I’m not sure why, after so many years of witnessing local talent, that I am still surprised, but I think it’s because the Winnipeg arts scene and the wonderful artists within it are constantly out-doing themselves,” says Jenna Khan, Host of Energy 106.
