Every school that enters the Manitoba Dance Festival must provide a certain number of volunteers based on their number of entries. Volunteers are given roles at the Festival which may include: handing out certificates onstage, working at the information booth or monitoring the audience. We truly appreciate any time you are able to donate on behalf of the RWB School. Please stop by the School Office to sign up for this volunteer opportunity.
The RWB School relies heavily on the support and enthusiasm of our parent volunteers to assist with Dance Spectrum. Volunteers can view their children’s performances at the dress rehearsal from the front and the performance from backstage with no need to purchase a ticket! For the 2017 season, we are moving to a model that includes three Dance Spectrum performances (where in past years we have had two Dance Spectrum performances and a shorter Spring Concert performance). As such, we are revising and finalizing our volunteer commitment requirements and therefore a separate communication will be coming out in a couple of weeks regarding volunteer sign up.
If you have any questions regarding festival rehearsals please contact your child’s choreographer directly. The RWB School Office is able to pass along correspondence from parents/students to teachers however, please be aware that the teacher will not be able to receive your message until their next scheduled day of teaching.
First Steps is an annual competition and performance of new choreography by senior RWB School Professional Division students. It is designed to increase students’ artistic sensitivity, awareness, and respect for the creative process and is an opportunity to discover if they have a talent for choreography and to give them the tools to explore their potential.
2017 First Steps will feature 11 new works by senior level students who have been working through their own creative process for months in order to get it ready for public viewing and a panel of jurors. These choreographers found inspiration from music, current events, and personal experiences then searched for ways to express their inspiration through movement, music, costumes and lighting.
You can even get involved in the voting process! We have a coveted People’s Choice Award that goes to the choreographer with the most votes from audience members.
