RWB School Winnipeg Harvest Food Drive

Donating to Winnipeg Harvest is one of the ways that our students can give back to the community. We will have Harvest bins placed outside the School Office in the month of December for students, staff, and parents to drop of their non-perishable food items. This time of year is always a difficult time for some families and we encourage our own RWB School families to help out in any way they can in lieu of gifts for teachers. Most needed items are:

  1. Canned fish and poultry – tuna, or salmon (packed in water) chicken or turkey
  2. Canned fruit and vegetables (packed in own juice)
  3. Canned stew, chili, brown beans
  4. Peanut Butter
  5. Baby Food - jars of chicken, beef, vegetables or fruit, infant cereal such as oatmeal, barley or rice, Formula with added iron (While donations of infant formula with added iron are needed, Winnipeg Harvest supports breastfeeding.)
  6. Whole grain pasta/whole wheat pasta
  7. Rice – brown, converted or parboiled
  8. Canned spaghetti sauce or tomatoes
  9. Cereal – high fiber, non-sugar coated
  10. Canned soup – lentil, pea, vegetable

Dance Manitoba Showcase

On Sunday, November 22nd the RWB School performed at Dance Manitoba’s annual Members’ Showcase. This event is dedicated to the promotion of dance and dance education in Manitoba. The Showcase Concert provides an opportunity for dancers to experience performing on stage in a professional environment and for Manitobans to sample the range and diversity of dance talent in the province. The variety of dance disciplines represented at the Showcase Concert include jazz, modern, tap, ballet, hip hop, and musical theatre. This year, the RWB School performed “Nara”, choreographed by Rachel Cooper and danced by Maryn Woo, Daria McKennitt, Meghan Carnegie, Anna Lamontagne Badiou, Vanessa Hrynchuk, and Lia Loewen.

Triple Threat Dance Convention

On November 7-8 several RWB students attended the Triple Threat Dance Convention at the RBC Convention Centre. Students had the opportunity to work with several talented Convention teachers, including Alison Faulk, Kelly Konno, Lisa La Touche, Megan Lawson, and Adam Parson.

RWB Recreational Division student Bryn Dubberley won a single convention scholarship, and student Tamara Nelson won the Junior Runner-Up Definite Threat scholarship. Congratulations to these ladies!

Requests for Audition Support Material

The RWB School is kindly asking that parents of RWB Recreational Division students who are interested in auditioning for specific performance opportunities, summer schools or workshops in the city or abroad, inform their child’s dance teacher or the Principal. The RWB School endeavours to support students through these audition processes, and ensuring teachers and the Principal are aware of participation helps us to do so. Please note, if students or parents are requesting support from the RWB School by means of video auditions or letters of recommendation, they must pick up an application form at the School Office and hand it in by December 18.

Nutcracker

When midnight strikes, young Clara’s enchanted Christmas gift leads her into a wondrous world… with the valiant Nutcracker at her side, Clara defeats the Mouse King and his army of mice, and journeys to the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets.

This sparkling holiday tradition is a festive feast for the senses with enchanting costumes, timeless choreography and a brilliant score by Tchaikovsky. Nutcracker features endearing Canadian scenes like a snowy pond hockey game and a battle on Parliament Hill. What could be more fun for the family than to join young Clara’s Christmas fantasy, where toys come to life, the Sugar Plum Fairy spreads her magic, mischievous Filbert the Bear steals the Christmas pudding and where Hazel the Polar Bear and her twelve furry polar cubs will surely warm your heart. A holiday classic for the whole family!

Students are eligible to purchase a ticket for $30. Offer can be redeemed on or after December 3rd using the promo code sent to you by email on that day.*

* Discount is taken off standard adult ticket pricing and cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions. Discount tickets are available in Section B ONLY and are not exchangeable once the tickets have been processed.
** Students performing in Nutcracker are entitled to 2 complimentary tickets in section B. Please call or visit the RWB Customer Service Centre to purchase.
