Choreographer Peter Quanz presents Q Dance at
the Rachel Browne Theatre May 27 and 28. This intimate triple-bill will
include Quanz’s Beautiful Stranger and Luminous, and Yosuke
Mino’s Koji. Performing the works are RWB dancers Vanessa Lawson, Amanda
Green, Jo-Ann Sundermeier, Alexander Gamayunov, Yosuke Mino, Maureya Lebowitz,
Tristan Dobrowney and Harrison James. Costumes for Q Dance were created by Anne
Armit.
Beautiful Stranger
Beautiful Stranger was included on last
year’s Q Dance program. For this production, Quanz has expanded the work. The
piece is set to Liederkreis, op. 39 by Robert Schumann and will be
performed to live music by University of Manitoba vocalist Mel Braun and
pianist Laura Loewen.
Luminous
Luminous is a gorgeous work that explores romantic
relationships at different stages in life. Originally choreographed for The
Hong Kong Ballet, this intimate and poignant work is danced to a moonlit
background. Quanz has chosen ‘Affairs of the Heart’ by Marjan Mozetich as the
music for his ballet. This piece of music was originally commissioned by the
Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. A full-scale version of Luminous will be
performed as part of the RWB’s 2011-12 season next year. Quanz encourages the
Winnipeg public to get a sneak peek of the work.
Koji
Over the past few
years, RWB Soloist Yosuke Mino has been expanding his choreographic repertoire.
Mino choreographed his solo Koji for the International Solo Tanz Theater
Festival in Stuttgart, Germany. The work won second prize for dance at the
festival.
