She/Her

Dr. Lorraine Yau completed her B.Sc. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics in 1991 (UBC), and her Ph.D. in Physiology in 2001 (University of Manitoba). Her Doctoral work became a launchpad for a small start-up company in the area of drug-eluting delivery systems, with a focus on Vascular and Cardiovascular Disease. As a Research Associate (St. Boniface Research Centre), Lorraine was a Project Manager for a translational research group in vascular disease and diabetes. She stepped out of the workforce in 2008, retiring from her love of medical research to focus on raising her family. In 2022, she returned to university life and currently serves as the Program Coordinator for Continuing Professional Development for Dentistry and Dental Hygiene at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, University of Manitoba.

Lorraine’s involvement with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) began in 2002 when her eldest child enrolled in Recreational Division dance classes. Since then, all of her children have had the privilege of calling the RWB “home” in both Recreational Division and Professional Division programs. As an enthusiastic supporter of the ballet, she and her family have been volunteers, donors, and season ticket holders for more than 20 years.

Her board experience includes the Parent Executive Council for Beautiful Savior Lutheran School (2005-2012) and the Executive Board for Hinode Taiko (2012-2018), serving as a Vice-President (Finance and Fundraising). Lorraine was a member of Hinode Taiko, a Japanese drumming group, from 1992-1999, performing at Folklorama and touring with them to Japan in 1996. Lorraine is honoured to be serving on the RWB Board, working with her fellow board members to grow the organization and champion the art form in an evolving global environment. She is currently Vice-Chair of the RWB School Committee.
